Bill Pickett Memorial Scholarship Fund

Mission

The Bill Pickett Memorial Scholarship Fund (BPMSF) honors the rich culture and contributions of the Black Cowboy, Black Cowgirl and African Americans contributed to the west through our programs, community support and scholarship awards.

We will fulfill our mission by:

  • Preserving the heritage and contributions of African Americans in the west.
  • Providing scholarships to deserving students.
  • Preserving the legacy of our founder, Lu Vason, and his vision for the supporting our youth through scholarships and presenting the Bill Pickett Heritage Rodeo across the country.
  • Showcasing the Black Cowboy and Black Cowgirl through our Rodeo for Kidz Sake and other educational/development programs.
  • Honoring African American’s place in the West by continuing the heritage of Bill Pickett and Black Rodeos.

We provide a wide array of educational and rodeo Scholarships

Lu Vason Founder Scholarship

Students who will be graduating from high school or attending an accredited technical school, community college or four-year university in the United States

Bill Pickett Regional Scholarship

Application will only be accepted for the region or state where you reside and where Bill Pickett Invitational Rodeo (BPIR) is being presented.

Sedgwick Haynes Memorial Calf Roping Fee Grant

One BPIR Calf Roping Contestant will be selected to receive a grant to cover calf roping fees only for a year.

To help offset the cost of book, materials or resources for students in the process of furthering their education.  ($500.00 maximum).
